REALTIME CHESS & CORRESPONDENCE CHESS
While I have been an avid member of this site, I have noticed and notable gulf between the people who play RTC and CC.
To me, RTC just seems so impersonal, you play a game for 15 minutes and then you just leave. I have played RTC four times and have found each game, ultimately, personally unenjoyable.
Whereas, I play 99% of my games on CC. I actually get excited when I go onto "My Ongoing Games" to see if it is my turn in any of my games. I look forward to the chance to stop and think for a few moments about how the game may pan out and what I can do to influence the game pattern. I enjoy the hard thinking as I often find myself unchallenged in school, my mind restricted to the level of lesser mind and intellect. I enjoy the fact that I know when i may lose a game... but the important thing is that I enjoy it: the people I have played against have all had the decency to say "Good luck" or, in one case, "You're really good for your age" before, during or after a game.
All this is in contrast to the "Prepare to get your ass kicked" that I received in my first ever RTC game.
I would like to know what you think of my views on RTC and CC: any useful or helpful comments would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I disagree in a way about your opinion about RTC games. 30 minutes and more is more forgiving than a 15 minutes and down. But Playing 1, 2 3 or 5 minutes during a game? Not for me, I'll not getting better. That's why I only play 30 minutes and sometime 60 minutes games. And I agree with you, there are peoples in RTC games saying things like "I'm sure I'm gonna beat you, so prepare to lose" or "Sit back and enjoy your defeat". And after beating them (so) easily, some of them were jealous and send me something like "You're so lucky, I wasn't playing my best", I sended them after "You're so lucky that I was not playing at my best". And you're like me, I'm really excited too when I'm going to my CC games, and there is less time pressure on me. That's the beauty of CC games.

Why not try a longer RTC game? Gives you time to think and chat a bit. I find I can't get into CC games so much as I lose my train of thought. 15min games are hard i think unless you have memerized a lot of opening moves. 30min games work best for me, if your keen I'll give you a game and see what you think. If someone wrote that as an opening message I would have cxl the game.

I agree, though correspondence chess is less like the real thing in a chess club or tournament. Speaking of which, I now see that spinny circley thing next to the correspondence icon, which means MY 200TH MOOOOVEEE!!!! I'm gonna join my first tourney!!

Just to clear something up... it wasn't a 15 minute game, it was a 60 minute game... I just used 15 minutes as a random number. Sorry for any confusion

there are good and bad going for rtc and cc, in there ways they are good, you get the buss when you are down on time and trying to find a good move, i am 62 and find rtc very good, but cc is the best you get a good feeling when you can see the game going the way you pland it,and the end is best when the last move go down are you win richard h
