My enjoyment of the game and great levels of play on this site
by MurrayCI thoroughly enjoy the skill variety of opponents and the great level of play shown by so many of the users of this site. I am particularly impressed with the level of play of the youngsters. I had two interesting games with eight year olds who showed significant capacity at two minute speed games. As a player with a rating of 1961, I enjoy playing people at all skill levels and the enthusiam shown for the game. As a player of the game for 50 years now, I have never lost the urge to play chess and this site allows me to continue my interest with people from all over the world. I wish others enjoy the game as much as I do.

by scottcthompsonI am in the middle of a game with someone and I am not a very good chess player. I was wondering if anyone knew of an online tool that would allow me to set up my current game (5 moves each) and then get advice from a computer on what to do next. Most of he simulations start from the beginning and do not allow you to set up a game in progress.
Any suggestions?

by gregcachinWhen the good Admininistration shut out the chat for everyone, where everybody seems participating in socializing, the camaradarie and appetite of players seems lost when it was closed, i remember the days when sometimes there are arguments but with humor, it seems everyone is happy of the outcome even though many times racial is the topic, there are points that they wished to impart. Now, all players seems so silent and we dont know if they are still around!? We cant seems to ignore the fact that we are all brothers in this world yet though far apart we had contact with each other through ideas of chess. This is only our opinion when we want that we can bring back the joys of brotherhood.

I first learnt how to play chess about 35 years ago. If I remember rightly, there was a programme on the telly about the game which was in black and white, and illustrated various games using stop animation. If, again, my memory isn't too faulty, the commentator always described castling as a tricky move. My Dad bought me a chess set one day and taught me how to play the game along with the first few moves of the dear old Giuoco Piano.
I was a bit miffed when one of my friends played an opening which didn't respond to the Giuoco Piano and annoyed with him for saying that he (or someone) always won with the opening in question. Her did win, but this particular opening is probably difficult to tackle for a lot of players if your opponent is being excessively defensive.
Curiously enough, when I started playing online chess last week, one of my opponents played the same kind of opening. Whether it has a name, I don't know, but it appears to be ... Read more >>>

by SPYABaseballMost of the time at the end of the game u really need pawns because I can not tell u how much it will hurt u in stats if they are the ones to promote a piece and u are the lonely king watching. The best way to protect pawns is to make them protected by other pawns bishops or knights so in the end of the game u have a ruck and 6 pawns there is almost no way u will not promote your pieces. ...
